The Payroll Specialist position will be a key member of the Human Resources team. The Payroll Specialist position manages the full-cycle payroll process, taxes, year-end payroll reporting, maintaining new and existing employee records, time and attendance records, verifications of employment and unemployment claims processing along with other departmental duties.
The Payroll Specialist will efficiently and accurately handle a variety of HR transactions, and provide excellent customer service support to the rest of the HR team and other HealthMarkets employees.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED)
• Compile payroll data and process corporate multi-state payroll on a bi-weekly basis • Respond to staff inquiries on paychecks • Prepare multi-state tax filings • Prepare end of year W2’s, 1095’s and reports as needed • Handle reconciliation of employee deductions and garnishments • Accurately complete various requests for information such as employment verification requests, in a timely manner • Maintain employee personnel files and associated filing • Prepare monthly and ad-hoc reports • Assist with maintenance of all employee and department files • Assist with annual audits, worker’s compensation claims, FMLA claims • Respond to all notices regarding federal, state and unemployment taxes • Handle benefit billing and reconciliations • Become familiar with the functionality of the various HR systems and modules necessary to assist the department in maintaining up to date, accurate records on all employees • Work as a key Team Member within the HR Department to identify areas for improvement, document and communicate suggestions to the Team, and implement approved improvements • Responsible for creating a work environment that adheres to and maintains strict confidentiality • Comply with all customer and company security requirements • This job description is an overview of key responsibilities, not a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities for this position. QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• High School diploma or equivalent required • Minimum 3 years’ experience in payroll processing required; multi-state experience required • 2+ years’ experience with ADP Workforce Now required • 2+ years HR Generalist experience preferred • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) • Intermediate to Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel • 2+ years’ experience in reporting using ADP
