Senior and Executive HR, Training and Organizational Development
Playful Studios is seeking an experienced and dynamic executive to join us as Director of People, to lead our talent efforts and help foster a rich and rewarding culture of continuous development. This new senior leadership position is intended for seasoned HR veterans excited about building something new within a rapidly expanding startup environment. This role will report directly to the President & Chief Business Officer.
The ideal candidate will develop and lead the strategy, development, and execution of all programs related to people at Playful. Specifically, this involves overseeing a broad set of people-focused initiatives that embody our core values and ensures that Playful remains a place where exceptional people can do their best work. Successful candidates will embrace this challenge by establishing simple and engaging programs centered on career development, collaboration, transparency, and team unity. Working closely with the Executive team, you will help develop people programs and strategies that support our rapidly-growing organization, while nurturing and growing our beloved culture. Partnering closely with our People Manager, this candidate will work with studio functional leads on all people & talent needs, to ensure continued development and recruitment of outstanding talent that supports our mission to deliver joy and excellence in entertainment. Our ideal applicant will have a clear history of caring genuinely about developing clear success paths for talent, team, and company.
Oversees the Playful People team and all talent and development functions.
Partners with the Executive team and project team leaders to develop and execute programs that support Playful’s company goals.
Recommends, develops, implements, and administers people policies, procedures, and best practices.
Champions the Playful mission and culture, continually evaluating for improvements to support high performance and employee engagement.
Leads all efforts for open, clear communication with all team members.
Works closely with Playful’s People Manager on:
Being a consistent resource and facilitator for any and all human resources questions or concerns.
Managing existing relationships with our TPAs, including compensation and benefits administration.
Managing our hiring processes including our talent recruitment process and software.
Organizing team-building activities.
Develop strategies to ensure we attract and retain great talent and work with senior management on workforce planning.
Oversee the entire employee orientation process, development and training, as well as offboarding.
Develop and further enhance our performance management tools and processes.
Develop and lead training courses, including leadership development training.
Partner with HR manager to support and help train managers and leaders as they put these processes into practice.
Drive company-wide succession planning to ensure continuous search and development of Playful’s future leaders.
Is a key stakeholder in nurturing and leading a healthy, positive-minded company culture.
Drives the development and maintenance of total compensation offerings, ensuring competitiveness and objectivity.
Maintains the budget and cost efficiencies for Human Resources; works with executive and finance team to analyze and evaluate financial impact of talent and people programs.
Manages and builds support for the organization’s diversity and inclusion efforts
Sets and communicates clear talent guidelines and expectations.
Nurtures our sense of fun without being forced.
Collaborate with other managers to maintain an inspiring, productive and goal-oriented work environment.
Partners with HR manager to engage, motivate and preserve our current talented team members and ensure they have a clear and consistent opportunities for growth.
Employs an analytical approach to support sound business decisions and periodically evaluates our human resources programs, processes, and third-party providers to ensure Playful grows into an industry leader in excellence, diversity, inclusivity and joy.
Ensures company compliance with regulatory concerns, reporting, and all other applicable federal and state employment laws.
Works alongside other executives to manage organizational logistics and space planning as our team grows.
Actively supports the safety, welfare, wellness, diversity, and health of our entire team and provide tools and resources for support and counseling when necessary.
Connects with partners in the community to build Playful brand and recruiting sources.
Operates as an advisor to senior leadership and helps facilitate effective collaboration across functions.

10+ years of relevant experience in Human Resources organizational development and management.
Proven ability to develop and implement long-term plans and programs following human resources best practices in a fast paced, growing environment.
Experience working at a young and fast-growing organization, preferably with creative, entertainment-focused companies.
Human Resources professional certification such as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP.
Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment, wage and salary laws and regulations.
General knowledge of the principles and practices of Human Resources administration.
A history of building and effectively managing relationships at all company levels.
Strong analytical abilities, including reporting, synthesizing data, and creating positive solutions to problems and issues to ensure long-term success.
Experience coaching and influencing senior leadership, communicating effectively, and helping lead organization change.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Unwavering ability to work confidentially and responsibly at all levels within an organization while handling highly sensitive information.
Maintain a flexible mindset related to the ongoing evolution of company culture.
Ability to initiate change and lead improvement efforts through innovative ideas and technology.
