The Employment Immigration Specialist is responsible for filing immigration petitions, overseeing onboarding and transitional services for international TA/RA/GA employees. Additionally, this position would serve as a back up for H-1B and permanent residency processing.
Lead Employment & Transitional Services for International TA/RA/GA Employees (50%): • File J-1 immigration petitions for teaching assistants, resident assistants and graduate assistants (TA/RA/GAs). • Coordinate TA/RA/GA onboarding, including I-9 and new hire paperwork. Lead HR Employment Express process and provide year-round individual advising. • Handle benefits administration for all compensated TA/RA/GA and J1 students, including communication to employees, assisting with enrollment and processing of benefits enrollment for insurance and retirement, and benefits/payroll deduction audit and billing reconciliation. • Serve as back up for H-1B and permanent residency processing.
Support Immigration Services for International Employees and Visitors (50%): • Alumni & Exchange visitor advising, document processing and support of DHS benefit issuance. Signatory for I-983 for university employees. • Coordinate with stakeholders regarding vetting and onboarding requirements for international visitors engaged in research. • Provide specialized cross-cultural, onboarding and orientation programs and resources to assist employees/families. • Be available to campus stakeholders as an immigration resource. • Other Duties as Assigned: Includes advising and processing services for F-1 students and Alumni. Supervise student employees in providing services and administrative support.
-Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of experience preparing H-1, J-1, and permanent residency visa applications. -Human resources experience that includes onboarding and benefits administration. -Knowledge of employment-based immigration practices and procedures and Department of Labor (DOL) regulations. -Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver employment-based immigration training to hiring managers and foreign nationals. -An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
