Our HKS Dallas office is seeking an experienced Compensation & Benefits Manager to join our Human Resources team.
The Compensation and Benefits Manager is a subject matter expert who plays a pivotal role in translating our total compensation programs into meaningful careers. Responsible for spearheading the firm’s compensation and benefits programs to continue to attract, support, and retain the best talent in the industry. Self-starter, able to influence and drive change, to deal with ambiguity and to demonstrate results to the business. Manages the firm’s resources by aligning firm resources on compensation and benefits with proficiency, fluency and aptitude. Teaches and mentors staff and effectively embodies and expresses the firm’s values and mission.
Works with leadership to proactively develop HKS’s compensation philosophy and identify HR issues and creative solutions around compensation and benefits to support the business needs
Manages the compensation program by ensuring data is current, determining if compensation and benefits are competitive, sourcing and applying salary surveys, collaborating with leaders and communicating changes in compensation and benefits to employees
Oversees firm’s global annual compensation review process ensuring equitable application of HKS’s compensation philosophy; reviews and provides guidance on compensation matters, including merit increases and compensation analysis
Conducts ongoing research, analysis, and financial modeling to safeguard internal equity and maintain externally competitive compensation and benefits programs
Counsels leaders on pay decisions and compensation strategies, including recruitment and retention efforts in collaboration with Talent Acquisition
Collaborates with HRIS to launch and maintain advanced compensation within the firm’s HRIS system
Oversees the firm’s benefit administration and programs, providing strategic direction and management for all aspects of the benefit program; understands and stays up to date on trends in benefits and reviews the firm’s offerings accordingly, including keeping a pulse on needs of employees and creating benefits policies that address those needs
Oversees open enrollment management each year, including collaborating with the firm’s benefits broker, determining changes for benefits, managing communication of changes to employees, coordination of employee presentations and ensuring changes are processed within deadlines
Manages third-party benefits vendor relationships, including the resolution of benefits-related issues
Drives continuous improvement and project delivery excellence throughout the firm by identifying and adopting best practices, maintaining a proactive sense of the business’ needs
Leads and contributes in various human resources meetings, strategic initiatives and projects
Partners and develops trusting relationships with firm leaders in support of human resources efforts
Collaborates on the analysis and response to overall HR metrics, trends, and performance for assigned projects, in consultation and collaboration with HR leaders
Collaborates with HR team to ensure all programs, policies, and procedures comply with current legislation
Interprets appropriate laws and policies and advises management, employees and retirees accordingly
May act as a resource for employees and managers for employee relations matters
Stays current with overall human resources trends and best practices and provide feedback to HR leadership

Facilitates team’s self-evaluation to distill and distribute lessons learned within the firm, in collaboration with leadership

Responsible for understanding and managing HKS’s compensation and benefits budget
Collaborates on annual Human Resources budget with team
Assists in Resource Management
Collaborates in and may be responsible for delivering a project on defined budget requirements
Builds, updates and executes project schedule assuring deliverables are completed on time and aligned with the budget; recalibrates as necessary
Revenue or Opportunity Generation:
Develops professional networks; participates in professional organizations and acts as an ambassador for HKS
Identifies, maintains and cultivates essential relationships
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Psychology or related degree
Typically with 8+ years of experience, with a minimum of 5 years designing and implementing Total Rewards Programs (Compensation, Benefits, HRIS systems)
Experience in the use of HRIS systems (Workday) and managing benefits and compensation via HRIS strongly preferred
Experience in working across different disciplines and knowledgeable of different markets and geographies nationally and internationally.
Experience in MS Office Suite, including Excel
Experience in reading, manipulating and presenting complex data sets to draw conclusions which inform leadership decision making
Strong knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines with primary focus on compensation practices, diversity, benefits programs, federal and state respective employment laws
Experience in logistics management including connecting people and resources to the right place at the right time
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with all levels of staff
Strong presentation skills
Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
Ability to manage team with diplomatic and collaborative leadership style which puts value on relationships and collaboration, both internal and external
Ability to hold sensitive information with a high level of confidentiality and integrity
Ability to use sound judgment to drive complex issues to resolution
Ability to communicate and present ideas in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writing
